IS it really six years since Dolly was cloned? It must be because on July 5th, 1996, Dolly was made scientific history when “she became the first mammal to be cloned from an adult cell.” (Agence France-Presse)
Well, as with everything, all good things come to an end. And today it was Dolly. Dolly the sheep was put down when it was found she had lung disease. In January 2002, it was found that Dolly had a form of arthritis - the first telling that not all was well.
Dolly, however did leave the planet to remember her by - two offspring lovingly created (the natural way) with a Welsh mountain ram, aptly named, David - the first called Bonnie, in April 1998, and then they ran out of names, as she had three more baby lambs in 1999.
Here is something interesting that I did not know - Dolly the sheep is named after Dolly Parton - not surprisingly really, because like the name that the sheep was named after, all was not 100% real ![]()
